Will Smith tells ‘GQ’ Jada wasn’t the only one involved in ‘entanglements’

Will Smith has finally made it clear that his wife Jada was not the only one in their marriage engaging in extramarital sexual relationships.

American actor Will Smith recently featured on the cover of GQ magazine where he shared some revelations about his marriage to actress Jada Pinkett Smith.

The couple has made headlines across the world this year after they both addressed the rumours of infidelity between Jada and American musician August Alsina on Jada’s popular talk show, Red Table Talk, who alleged that he had a relationship with Jada in 2015 with Will’s permission.

Did they both agree to this?

“I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation. Due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they have spoken on several times, and not involving romanticism, he gave me his blessing,” alleged Alsina.

Speaking to GQ, the 53-year-old actor admitted that he and Jada had been in an open relationship for some time, and he made it clear that although the Red Table Talk discussion that took place in July may have made it seem as though Jada was the only one in their marriage who was seeing other people, that was never the case.

How did that conversation go?

“There were significant, endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection.

“We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way, and marriage for us can’t be a prison. And I don’t suggest our road for anybody… But the experiences that the freedoms that we’ve given one another and the unconditional support, to me, is the highest definition of love,” said the actor.

Will said it was not always easy for him to engage with other people or partners organically outside of his marriage. He said he always saw it as a sinful act, and this was simply because of his Christian upbringing.

“I don’t know where I saw it or some shit as a teenager, but the idea of travelling with 20 women that I loved and took care of and all of that, it seemed like a really great idea. And then, after we played it out a little bit, I was like, ‘That would be horrific’.” said Will.

He also revealed that he had to consult an intimacy coach to help him process his thoughts about having other partners outside of his marriage.

“What the coach was doing was essentially cleaning out my mind, letting it know it was okay to be me and be who I was. It was okay to think Halle is fine.

“It doesn’t make me a bad person that I’m married and I think Halle is beautiful. Whereas in my mind, in my Christian upbringing, even my thoughts were sins,” expressed the father of three.

He also shared that deciding on having an open relationship was much easier for his wife, who had expressed from the get-go of their relationship that she had no interest in being in a conventional marriage, and this may have been because of the unconventional relationships she was exposed to when growing up.

Whose idea was this?

“Jada never believed in conventional marriage … Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship so she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up,” said the Men in Black star.
