Rapper and media personality Boity Thulo has laid charges of assault after an altercation at a hotel this week with a fellow media colleague.
The City Press reported that former radio host Bujy Bikwa allegedly threw a bottle at Boity’s face. Boity was taken to hospital by ambulance and allegedly sustained injuries to her face.
An anonymous source told The Citizen there was calm before the storm and then a “shouting match” ensued at a Midrand hotel in Johannesburg.
The businesswoman laid the charges at the Midrand police station and Bujy was arrested, spending a night in jail. Bujy was expected to appear at the Midrand Magistrates Court on Friday, City Press reported.
Alleged witnesses to the incident told the publication that before the argument, both Boity and Bujy were talking about sangomas and ancestors when things got heated.
Boity’s manager Sebastian Jameson declined to comment on the charges.
Boity hasn’t publicly commented on the incident, only posting a smiling picture of herself on Friday as the story broke.
“There’s always a reason to smile,” she wrote.
Twitter users wondered if the picture was taken before or after the alleged incident.
“My question is… Where’s the scar from the bottle?”@Madumane asked.
Boity recently defended her new music, which has taken more of an amapiano sound, saying artists should be allowed to evolve and try out new sounds.
However, other hip hop artists such as Riky Rick, Yanga Chief, Ginger Trill, Maggz and Maglera Doe Boy have all entered the genre successfully.
