Somizi Mhlongo visited Exclusive Books in Sandton on Friday and posted pictures and videos that left his followers saying he was throwing shade at his former best friend Bonang Matheba.
Fans had taken to social media to complain about Somizi’s book, Dominoes: Unbreakable Spirit, being sold out, asking him to sort out the problem. It seems the problem has been solved now, but only in Gauteng as Somizi said it had been delivered to the store.
Somizi said he went to the store to ensure there were no “errors”, a comment that left fans thinking he was shading Bonang’s book that has been criticised for having grammatical errors.
“So I’m here at Sandton Exclusive Books and I wanted to confirm if my book is here. So here it’s delivered and this lady has just bought. It’s not a book signing, it’s just me passing by and taking care of business to make sure there are no errors. Thank you very much. I’ve just being told by the manager that in other provinces, it will definitely be there on Monday. It’s walking to Eastern Cape, to Western Cape and Polokwane – wait is Polokwane a province? Limpopo,” he said.
In another video, Somizi celebrates his book’s success after it claimed back its number one spot when it was only delivered on Thursday.
Bonang’s book has been criticised for getting even her birth date wrong, with some words missing. There are words such as “lesbian woman” that readers argue shouldn’t have made it.
Those who tried to defend her could not stand a chance against an army that insisted Bonang was disrespectful for publishing a book with several errors. They even went as far as tweeting using broken English to mock her.
The same critics said Bonang deserved the mockery after being criticised last year for asking a caller on Metro FM to speak in English. She was told to “decolonise” her mind.
At the time, AKA also got himself into trouble for giving a fan an English lesson.
