One thing media personality, Somizi Mhlongo, knows is to bring the funny to any situation and during a visit to New York, he playfully had jabs for Bonang Matheba.
The multi-talented star has been posting up a storm since he arrived in the Big Apple. In one Instagram video, he’s walking around Times Square and revealed he just finished watching the Lion King at the theatre.
Theatric as ever, Somizi sings the classic song by Alicia Keys and Jay Z, Empire State of Mind. He asks a man dressed as Grover, the blue muppet character in Sesame Street, if he has seen his “sister Bonang Matheba” and if he knows her. The man says he doesn’t know her.
Somizi then hilariously calls out Minnie Dlamini but when the camera turns around it actually shows Minnie Mouse, the Disney character.

Continuing to walk around, he sees cop cars and comments in isiZulu, “amaphoyisa lana, ngiyabesaba, abayadubula abantu abamnyama”, which translates to, “I am scared of cops here, they shoot black people”.
Bonang has been living in New York for several months. It is unclear what Somizi and Bonang are doing in the city but the former Idols SA judge has been travelling extensively lately.
Somizi was in Dubai recently, along with many local celebrities, most of them for the Expo 2020 Dubai. He’s also been travelling in style, flying in business class and dressing in luxury apparel.
Somizi says he is on a “bestiecation“, a vacation with his best friend, Ndo Maleho.
