Borrowing from TikTok and Twitter slang, the Ndlovu Youth Choir “understood the assignment” when it came to making us all emotional with their new viral video for Easy On Me.
Award-winning British artist Adele’s long-awaited comeback has been widely welcomed, as her first single in nearly six years already has broken music streaming records.
In honour of the star’s Easy On Me, Ndlovu Youth Choir did what they do best and added their own African twist to the hit song.
The America’s Got Talent finalists received mixed reactions, with some Twitter users saying they got “goosebumps” after listening to their rendition, while others pointed out sound and garb issues.
South Africans are loving Easy On Me so much that a remix has been created by DJ Snow from the Western Cape.
Eastcoast Radio reported that DJ’s real is name Shaun Simons, from Macassar in Cape Town, and he released an unofficial remix of Adele’s new song that has over 1,000 views on YouTube.
The sound is a fusion of old-school soul with high-tempo house beats and is reportedly gaining traction in clubs around the world.
Adele is set to have a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in the lead-up to her album release for 30 on the 20 November.
The interview, Adele One Night Only, will air on the CBS network.
Oprah’s best friend, Gayle King, said on CBS Mornings that she was told by “reliable sources” that the interview would take place this week, “if I had to guess, I would say Wednesday”.
“I also heard from ‘reliable sources’ that it will take place in Oprah’s green rose garden. It’s a very pretty setting as you can imagine, Oprah’s got a really nice yard… she’s very excited about it,” Gayle said.
