Recent reports have revealed that DJ Warras, popularly known as the Shady Lurker, will leave 5FM at the end of this month, due to allegedly feeling that the popular station is not giving him the growth he desires. His radio work is also reportedly clashing with his television work, with him doing the Man Cave show that will be aired on SABC 3 next Sunday.
“Contract details are something that management decides, and I am not allowed to discuss this. What I can say is that I thoroughly enjoyed working with the resigned producer, Catherine Grenfell, who did her last show on Thursday,” he told the Sunday World. “Speaking to all those legends, including Gareth Cliff, Mark Pilgrim and Derrick ‘The Bandit’ Richardson, was something I will cherish forever,” the DJ said.
Radio personality Thomas Msengana is also leaving 5FM after six years with the radio station, raising questions for listeners who wonder about the sudden departure of the two loved DJs.
“It’s been absolutely amazing working at 5FM all these years and I have enjoyed growing with the station. I have reached a point in my career where I find myself having to say goodbye to the station and to pursue other endeavours,” Msengana expressed in a statement.
According to 5FM publicist Gilda Van Schalkwyk, a replacement for Msengana’s timeslot has not yet been found and various personalities will fill in throughout this month.
Additional changes introduced to the 5FM’s weekend line-up include a new show with house talents DJ Fresh and Euphonik. The new show will be broadcast every Saturday night between 21:00 – 23:00. Furthermore, Euphonik’s My House on Sundays will move earlier in the day between 17:00 – 19:00.
