Afro-soul singer Vusi Nova, real name Vusi Nongxa, on Monday told eNCA his hijackers told him they had been watching him for a year.
The singer was abducted from his home in Melville in the early hours of Friday. The hijackers left him in Chiawelo, Soweto, and allegedly still have his car.
One of the men reportedly threatened to kill him, take him to the bush and cut off his nipples and penis.
It seems the hijackers believed he was just an ordinary South African making a good living, as he told The Sowetan they asked him what he did for a living.
“I said I sang, and they instructed me to sing, and I told them I didn’t have a voice, and they slapped me,” he was quoted as saying.
The music sensation has been trending since the hijacking, but today’s source of chatter was perhaps a bit cruel, as the singer is probably still recovering from the traumatic ordeal. Twitter on Monday had fun making guesses as to which song Vusi Nova belted for the hijackers to save his life.
Some say he sang his hit song, Memeza, while others are pretty sure he sang gospel songs.
A concern that came up often was how comfortable and brazen the hijackers were to even instruct Vusi Nova to sing for them, calling for police to help curb the scourge of crime in the country.
