‘Partying with delinquent celebrities’ – Tweeps drag Zizi Kodwa for wasting taxpayer money

It seems that the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture have a knack for squandering funds on ‘irrelevant projects’.

Zizi Kodwa, Minister of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, has found himself on the bad side of South African’s moody keyboards earlier this week, when he posted pictures of himself lunching with kwaito musician, Bonginkosi Dlamini, popularly known as Zola 7.

Kodwa, who was previously the Deputy Minister of State Security, was appointed in his new role in March 2023, and Tweeps seem to think that he is all about ‘chasing clout’ since he took on this new role.

Kodwa’s predecessor, Emmanuel Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa was demoted from Cabinet after his department’s outrageous plans to erect a R22 million monumental African flag project was killed by President Ramaphosa himself.

What is the purpose of the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture?

The South African government website explains that the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture is mandated to provide leadership to the sport, arts and culture sector to accelerate its transformation and to oversee the development and management of sports, arts and culture in South Africa.

Why are Tweeps angry with Zizi Kodwa?

After reading the above mandate of Kodwa’s office, Tweeps can be forgiven for losing their minds when the minister took to his Twitter timeline on Monday to share snaps of him having lunch and cake with Zola 7 to celebrate the musicians birthday.

“Zola 7, we appreciate your talent and contribution to the social development of our country. A great birthday and many more years,” Kodwa tweeted.

While some Tweeps praised the minister for giving Zola 7 his flowers and showing appreciation to one of South Africa’s icons, others were disappointed in him for showing favourtism and felt that he should rather be spending the department’s time and money on finding a solution to ensure local actors are paid royalties by broadcasters and producers.

Not the first time Zola 7 has been ‘wined and dined’ by someone influential

In March 2022, socialite and businesswoman Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize invited Zola 7 to her luxurious home where they ‘spend some time getting to know each other.’

The visit to MaMkhize’s home came after the musician trended on Twitter for finding himself in a dire financial position.

The streets of social media were also abuzz when pictures and videos of this visit surfaced with many praising the socialite for showing the musician some love.
