Entertainer Zodwa Wabantu has hit back at those who have accused her of being homophobic, saying chances that she was were slim to none.
Zodwa Wabantu dominated the Twitter streets at the weekend after making comments on the conduct of homosexuals on Saturday night’s episode of her reality TV show Zodwa Wabantu: Uncensored.
While she was turning heads at the Durban July with her dress, her episode was airing, leaving some viewers questioning whether she had just exposed her alleged homophobia.
As she was highlighting the stereotypical characteristics of homosexual men, Zodwa said: “Gay people are naughty. Name a gay person in the industry who has never fought with a girl. They are convinced that they have a vagina, they have a penis. We have vaginas. We accommodate you guys so that you feel that you get to wear makeup. When we talk about me, you’ll get a chance too.”
One of her critics started an online petition calling for her show to be cancelled, and the hashtag #ZodwaCancelled trended for most of Monday.
But the entertainer said the anger was misplaced, further denying that she was homophobic.
“I was talking about my friends. I am talking about something that I have observed about them since they are my friends. Anyway, that is a reality show, I am calling it as I see it,” she told The Sowetan.
Following the outcry, her supporters have started a counter-petition calling for her show to be saved. It was trending on Tuesday morning.
