The tennis star gave birth to her first-born daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian JR in September 2017, a year after she married her tech mogul husband, Alexis, in a Rome ceremony. In her previous interview with Vogue, Serena said she has always wanted to be a mother. She added: “We are not spending a day apart until she is eighteen”.
Tennis retirement
In August 2022, Serena announced that she was officially retiring from tennis, sharing that it has been difficult for her to come to terms with her departure from the sport. She also shared she wanted to focus on growing her family and her venture capital firm called Serena Ventures.
“I have never liked the word retirement. It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition, but I want to be sensitive about how I use that word, which means something very specific and important to a community of people.
“Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” she told Vogue.
