Tbo Touch’s company faces liquidation over R190k unpaid Durban July bill

The company that owns the popular Touch HD digital radio station has reportedly failed to pay Durban July hospitality bills dating back to 2017.

Radio personality DJ Tbo Touch’s company, Touch HD and Marketing, is reportedly in trouble, facing liquidation after failing to settle a massive hospitality bill at the 2017 Durban July.

According to Sunday World, a company who provided hospitality services at the Durban July has filed papers in a bid to sequestrate the company after they allegedly left an almost R190,000 catering bill unpaid following the event.

Touch HD and Marketing reportedly sent the company an email saying payment would be made just after the event, in July 2017, but it never was. According to Sunday World, the DJ has not responded to requests for comment and has not yet sent papers responding to the sequestration application.

The celebrity DJ and entrepreneur has a reputation for making it rain during his annual pilgrimage to the popular horse racing event.

His alleged non-payment of bills in 2017 did not stop him from heading to the 2018 event in style – with a cavalcade of sportscars.

The radio personality, real name Thabo Molefe, took to social media at the time to show off all the expensive cars in his motorcade ahead of the Durban July horse race.

Among the flashy wheels worth millions was an Audi R8 Spyder, a BMW i8, various Mercedes-Benz coupes, drop tops, SUVs, a Porsche Boxster, top-of-the-range Range Rovers and a number of BMWs.

His branded “Touch Convoy” has the apparent rule of “four pipes only”, referring to the number of exhausts most high-performance cars come with, though some of the cars in his convoy wouldn’t have that for technical reasons.

In 2016 the DJ first had Twitter in a spin when he said his road trip involved vehicles worth R216 million.

That year, the #TouchConvoy featured 100 supercars that travelled to different cities.

Before they left Gauteng this Friday, Touch uploaded this video showing off most of the cars and writing: “Lord thank you for giving us the opportunity to play with these toys! We ask that you grant us travelling mercies till reach our #TouchHdTakeOver Durban.”
