Respected television personality and choreographer Somizi “Somgaga” Mhlongo is doing his bit for Mandela Day, just like he did last year. Mhlongo has decided to give away 30 of this designer suits to disadvantaged teenage boys to wear to their matric dance this year.
Somgaga took to Instagram to explain his plans. “Mandela Day is around the corner. Last year I started a raise a matric dance dress campaign. My aim was to raise 67 dresses. Ended up getting 300 dresses for girls around the country. This year is like to grow the campaign by also raising 67 suits for matric boys. I’ll start with myself. I’m giving away 30 of my suits I’ve won on previous events. I’ll give to boys size 28 to 32. I’m challenging my friends to bring theirs. I’m also challenging everyone to go to their neighbouring high schools and donate their dresses and suits. My friends u know where to find me and I know u have suits,” he captioned a picture of the suits he plans to donate.
Somizi’s post received a lot of praise from his followers, with most admiring his kind heart and others asking for the suits already. “You are the kindest,” one person wrote. “My brother’s matric ball is on the 5th August and his looking for a suit and he can’t afford one. We looked for a cheaper one yesterday but had no luck and now I’m reading about your give away gift. is it possible to consider my brother? His very smart and top achiever. This will mean the world to him to be able to go to his matric ball dressed smart like you,” another post read.
We have no idea how Somgaga will manage the huge demand for matric dance suits, but we certainly wish him luck.
