Somizi Mhlongo’s older sister laid to rest in intimate sendoff

Somizi Mhlongo shared some sad news on Friday morning, saying that he had laid to rest his elder sister recently.

The cookbook author wrote on Instagram that they had bid farewell to his mother Mary Twala’s firstborn. Somizi did not name his sister in the post and shared several pictures of the intimate and beautiful sendoff.

“She was a very private person and her wishes was [sic] that her sendoff [should] be just that. And we made sure that we grant her that. It was a peaceful dignified sendoff.

Somizi’s siblings are very private and viewers got their first glimpse of his brother during his wedding special with estranged husband Mohale Motaung.

“Now let me take this time to thank everyone who came through – the messages, friends and relatives.”

He also thanked black service providers and called for people to support black businesses such as Nono Events, Vuyo’s Funeral Services

“It was my first time using [your] services and I’m definitely sold,” he said.

“We need to destigmatise the notion that black businesses give bad services, bad service is bad service. Good service is good service. Regardless of race,” he wrote.

Somizi’s family and friends such as Vusi Nova were in attendance as condolences poured in for the family.

The choreographer lost his mother in July 2020 after a short illness. She was 80 years old.

He said during her funeral: “I am not sad because my mother is gone but I am sad that my umbilical cord has been cut completely. I am so at peace with what my mother has achieved. She’s seen me walking down the aisle, she’s seen her granddaughters, she has seen her sisters, her family loved her and she loved them.”
