Somizi: I never witnessed Euphonik abusing Bonang

Somizi Mhlongo has again opened up about his friendship with Bonang Matheba and the allegation she made against her ex-boyfriend Euphonik, saying he had physically abused her.

Responding to a caller on their Metro FM show on Friday, Somizi said he was still not sure why Bonang ended their friendship, though he had his suspicions.

In fact, Somizi claimed he was the last to know about Bonang ending their friendship as she had been in Mauritius at the time.

“The day before she was in Mauritius and I said: ‘I miss you’ and she said: ‘I miss you too’. The following day I called and she answered but said she was busy and I said: ‘Okay, call me when you’re done’.

“No call, no call – second day. I felt that something weird was going on.”

Though at first he thought she ended it because of rumours that Somizi was the one who had told Zinhle about AKA’s relationship with Bonang, the Idols SA judge said he only later found out about her reason for ending their friendship in her book.

“Then I read the book and found that it’s not that, it’s because I became friends with Euphonik and because I’ve witnessed Euphonik abusing her,” he said.

Somizi said he only started talking to Euphonik a year after Bonang ended their friendship, saying he, in fact, never witnessed Euphonik abusing her.

“Euphonik and I never spoke until after a year of our break up. I’ve never witnessed Euphonik abusing her. Then I was confused what it was.”

Though he was sad that she ended their friendship, Somizi said he also thought Bonang did not respect what they had because if she did, she would have at least confronted him about whatever she thought he had done wrong.

“I was obsessed with her, I was so loyal that I would even fight her battles even if it has nothing to do with me. To this day I would still want to know. If she respected our friendship, she would have confronted me, she never confronted me about anything. I would have done it.”

However, Somizi said he had forgiven her as she’s still young.

“I forgave her because at the end of the day, she’s child to me, she’s still young, she’s allowed to make mistakes but one day I hope she will wake up.”
