Somizi defends Bahumi following backlash on Lebo Mathosa role

Both songbird Kelly Khumalo and Bahumi Madisakwane – Somizi Mhlongo and Palesa Madisakwane’s daughter – have reportedly been tipped to play the role of Lebo Mathosa in the upcoming biopic, The Lebo Mathosa Story, to be released later in the year.

Bahumi will reportedly portray a young Mathosa, with Khumalo playing her in adulthood, reports City Press.

The Lebo Mathosa Story is a six-part BET Africa drama series.

An official announcement is yet to be made.

Bahumi has received both congratulatory messages and hate on social media from those who claimed she only got the role because she is Somizi’s daughter.

Most questioned her singing and acting ability.

But Somizi has advised his daughter to not listen to her critics.

“F*uck the haters,” he said in a WhatsApp message he sent to her  and later shared on Instagram.

The Idols SA judge told his daughter to not be ashamed of being his daughter.

Part of his message reads: “Never ever question why you get certain opportunities in life. You deserve everything and you must take anything and everything they said you would never have. It’s not your fault that you are my daughter. Never pay attention to them. They will always want to bring you to their level.”

TV personality Nandi Madida also slammed those who criticised Bahumi for reportedly getting the role, saying children of American celebrities get congratulated for following in their parents’ footsteps.

“We should do the same locally, it’s beautiful to watch a family continue a great legacy,” she said.
