E.tv news reader Neo Monyetsane has escaped with a fine after he was found guilty of speeding.
A Sesotho news reader for the free-to-air channel, the 28-year-old was arrested on the N1 in Glen, in the Free State, after he was caught driving at 190km in a 120km/h zone.
Justifying the lenient sentence magistrate Lani Opperman said Monyetsane had showed genuine remorse.
According to the Daily Sun, Magistrate Opperman in court asked the remorseful Monyetsane to give her a good reason why she should not take his licence away, to which he replied that he really needs it to get to work every day.
He subsequently received a R6 000 fine, half of which was suspended for five years.
Andrew Ledwaba, senior publicist for e.tv, told the publication that Monyetsane has signed up for the Spare a Thought, Drive Safe campaign since his arrest.
