Scandal! star fights ex in court

Renowned SA actor Sello Maake ka-Ncube and his ex-girlfriend, Thandi Ngcobo, are involved in a bitter legal battle over millions of rand they received from the National Lottery Board Trust Fund to host an awards ceremony for the unsung heroes within the television and radio industries.

According to City Press, the couple submitted a joint proposal requesting funds to host the Screen Excellence Awards, which would reward individuals who work behind the scenes.

The event would be co-hosted by his Sello Maake ka-Ncube Foundation and her Batebang Foundation, and the Lottery Board later transferred R4 million into the latter foundation’s bank account.

Ngcobo was expected to then transfer the money into the Sello Maake ka-Ncube Foundation bank account within 14 days, but their relationship came to an acrimonious end when she allegedly discovered that he’d been having an affair and refused to hand over the cash.

The actor – best known for his roles as Archie Moroka in ‘Generations’ and Daniel Nyathi in ‘Scandal!’ – alerted the Lottery Board of the matter and the Batebang account was eventually frozen.

With the matter currently in court, Ngcobo will have to explain why only R116 276.10 of the original R4 million remains.
