Royal experts said this may have been because the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were no longer seen as popular royals, therefore not having a place amongst A-listers.

Talking to Express, royal commentator Neil Sean said Meghan would be in search of other high-profile stars to appear in her Netflix animated series Pearl, after changing her mind on casting the former US first lady.

“Michelle Obama was one that Meghan Markle was very keen to sign up but that went through the pan when they didn’t get an invite to that spectacular 60th birthday for the former president,” said Sean.

“She didn’t leave Monaco in a huff! She didn’t leave because she was mad at me or at anybody else. She was going down to South Africa to reassess her foundation’s work down there and to take a little time off with her brother and some friends,” said Albert.

The Prince of Monaco further explained that her stay was only supposed to be for 10 days, but it had to be extended because of the infection which she contracted while in South Africa.

“It was supposed to be a week-long, 10-day maximum stay, and she is still there now because she had this infection and all these medical complications arose.

“She didn’t go into exile. It was absolutely just a medical problem which had to be treated,” said the prince.
