Floods ruin Rocking the Daises

Music festival Rocking the Daises has been forced to postpone to November due to floods in the Western Cape.

The event was scheduled to take place in the first weekend of October, in Cape Town and in Johannesburg respectively.

“Due to the devastating floods and unprecedented weather in the Western Cape over the last five days – on top of the continued rainfall throughout the month of September during our key site build period – the Daises executive team, in agreement with our title sponsor, have made the decision to postpone Rocking the Daises in both cities,” read the statement from the organisers.

There have been at least 11 confirmed fatalities after heavy rain and winds pounded the Western Cape province over the long weekend leaving a trail of destruction.

Authorities have warned the death toll could rise as the floodwater subsides. The destructive weather flooded homes, tore off roofs, destroyed crops and damaged roads and other infrastructure.

“The affected areas are vast affecting more than 10,000 people in various communities along the N1, N2 and R60,” said Gift of the Givers founder Dr Imtiaz Sooliman.

The event organisers confirmed in their statement they would donate to the Gift of the Givers relief fund “with a percentage of all tickets retained by festival goers, as we sympathise with those more severely affected than us”.

Ticket refund window

All the tickets will be automatically rolled over to the new dates.

“We will open a refund window via Quicket from the 3rd to 6th of October, after such time roll over tickets will remain in place.”

This year’s Rocking the Daises headline acts include the UK’s Stromzy, US rappers J.I.D and Denzel Curry among the long list of international acts. The organisers confirmed the booked artists will still perform on the new date.

“Our international artists make the trip to SA on the basis of two shows, both contractually and financially. So delaying one and not the other is not a viable option.”

“Rocking the Daises will officially take place [from] 17 -19 November, with the confirmation of most key headliners still set to perform on the revised dates, with communication underway with all teams who are trying their utmost best to make this work.”
