Rapulana Seiphemo revealed in a statement to the police that the accident that he was involved in that claimed three lives on the N14 highway outside Diepsloot, north on Johannesburg, on Valentine’s Day came about as a result of two men jumping into his car while he was stationary at a robot, pointing a gun at him and instructing him to drive along the N14 towards Mogale City.

According to the Sunday World newspaper, the veteran actor told the police from his bed in the Milpark private hospital in Johannesburg that he couldn’t allow the men to take his car and kill him after.

“Rapulana accelerated the speed and the suspect at the back shouted at him to stop as he was driving at a high speed, and he told them that they would rather all die instead of them taking his car and killing him. Rapulana says they started fighting for the steering wheel until he collided with another white car,” reads the police statement.

While the police failed to respond to questions on whether Seiphemo was facing any charges stemming from the crash or if police had interviewed extra witnesses since the accident happened, the paper indicated that police spokesman Tsekiso Mofokeng said: “Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of attempted robbery with aggravated circumstances and he will appear at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail hearing on Monday [today].”

Tebogo Makunyane (34), understood to be from Mamelodi, Tshwane, one of the passengers in Seiphemo’s car, died on impact, with a surviving passenger, Nathi Msiza (26), also from Mamelodi, expected to appear in court today.
