As a judge on e.tv street dance reality competition ‘Step Up or Step Out’ and with a Kha’bodacious Dance Fitness DVD in the pipeline, Khabonina’s suppleness is no secret, but this noteworthy twitpic of her doing a perfect vertical split against a Jeep SUV nevertheless deserves applause. Met with praise and admiration, the photo motivated some online fans to also post pictures of their inspiring flexibility.
But Khabonina’s a woman of many talents. She was the third Doobsie in ‘Muvhango’ some years ago and also self- released a debut album called ‘Gama Lahko’ under her label Khabodacious Moves Music in 2010.
With songs like ‘Make Love’, ‘We’re Getting Down’, and ‘Bring Your Body’, Khabonina generally sticks to singing, but she again raised some eyebrows earlier this month with the release of a music video for a song called ‘Wax It’, in which she tries her hand at rap.
“Wax on, wax off/ N*ggas try to touch me but their hands slip off/ Off my body coz it just might break ya/ Do it right and I might just make ya,” she ‘raps’ seductively. Speaking to the Times, Khabonina explains that the song is meant to empower women, saying: “I have a sizeable booty and I’m celebrating being a woman.”
She also defended herself against her haters and said of people’s tendency to want to box her in: “But I feel like I can say what I want because I’m a grown-ass woman and, as an artist, I’m not glued to one thing – people keep telling me to stick to dancing.”
