AKA’s family has visited his grave to celebrate following his big win at the Metro FM awards this past weekend. The late multi-award-winning rapper was shot and killed in February this year in Durban.
AKA became the biggest winner of the night at the 17th Metro FM Music Awards (MMA) in Mpumalanga on Saturday, 6 May.
His family took to Instagram to give fans a sneak peek of how they chose to celebrate his awards.
Posting a series of photos showing AKA’s daughter Kairo, his girlfriend Nadia Nakai, and dad Tony Forbes, Lynn Forbes penned a lengthy caption paying tribute to her late son. She said he made them proud and came full circle since the 2011 Metro FM Awards.
She added: “Kiernan (AKA), your talent is unquestionable. You have been consistent for almost 2 decades, and you deserve each of these awards. You are a legend, and you have left us with a lasting legacy for the generations to come. We are so proud of you, and we want to acknowledge the people who you chose to be there with you till the end and bring Mass Country to life.”

AKA’s only daughter, Kairo Forbes, touched many hearts when she sang her father’s song word to word at the MMA’s. Kairo was alongside her family to collect her late father’s awards on stage.
AKA was nominated for six awards and bagged four of them: Best Male Artist, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration Song, and Best Hip-Hop Artist.
The MMAs returned this year after a five-year break. SABC group executive for radio Nada Wotshela said they were delighted with the success of this year’s ceremony and added that it has cemented its place as the biggest and most prestigious music award ceremony in the South African entertainment industry.
“South Africa’s music artists have overcome so much in the past five years, and there was no better time to relaunch the Metro FM Music Awards than now. Metro FM is extremely proud and honoured to champion this important and high-profile event that recognises and celebrates diversity in music, art, fashion, and culture,” she added.
