P. Diddy has publicly spoken for the first time about his father who was shot dead when the rapper was three years old.
The rapper shared details of his childhood in a candid interview following the launch of his television network, Revolt TV, where he revealed for the first time the truth about his dad Melvin Combs, a drug dealer who was murdered at just 33 years old.
During the emotional video, Diddy – real name Sean Combs – says: ”They say you can’t miss something you never had, but that’s only a little ways right. There’s definitely been times as I’ve gotten older that I’ve missed my father – his presence – not being here.
”Not having someone to ask manly advice the things that you would ask your father. Also things that you would celebrate with him that would make him proud.”
The 43-year-old hip-hop mogul claims his father’s death inspired him to forge a successful career. As well as his music Diddy also has his own label Bad Boy Records, Sean John clothing range and more recently his partnership with Ciroc Vodka.
Diddy – who has a close relationship with his mother Janice – explained: ”Sometimes you can’t just answer why things happen but I definitely think the route I went on – staying out the streets and hitting my books and trying to be somebody – I think he played a role in that.”
Before concluding his video confession the teary-eyed musician added: ”My father’s name was Melvin Combs and I’m Melvin’s son, Sean Combs.”
