Nothemba Madumo’s slip up at SA Heroes Concert Awards Gala Dinner

MetroFM jazz guru, Nothemba Madumo, made a faux pas of note at the SA Heroes Concert Awards Gala Dinner in Pretoria when she announced that Madala Kunene, known as the king of the Zulu guitar, would be honoured posthumously. The only problem was, he was alive and well and sitting in the audience.

City Press reports that jaws dropped when Kunene went on stage to accept the award and Madumo had to do some quick damage control.

Her response was “I did not kill him,” and she apologised profusely to the music legend. He accepted the apology and countered saying “Maybe it is because I have not been actively involved in the industry.”

The gala dinner last Thursday, which honoured those in the industry included an array of music legends, sponsors and officials in attendance.

PJ Powers, Sello Galane, Barney Rachabane were applauded for their contribution to the local music industry.

The late Victor Ntoni was honoured posthumously. The late Mseleku talents Bheki and Wendy were also recognised. This was when Madumo named Kunene as another posthumous honouree.

Other winners included music promoters such as Morris Roda, Chris Ndaba, Zanele Mbokazi and Bruce Gapane.
