Nonhle, AKA, Morgan Deane make news

1. Nonhle Thema throws shade at BET nominees

For those who did not know, AKA, Minnie, Donald and other South African celebs raised our country’s flag at the BETs in Los Angeles. None of the nominated artists brought back a trophy but we are proud of them. Not only is your talent being recognised nationally but internationally as well. In Mbalula’s words: you are a bunch of winners.

But, of course, someone had to say something negative and downgrade their success. Nonhle Thema could not wait for Thursday to post her throwback pictures, so she decided to do it on Sunday, just when the BET news was still fresh, reminding the celebs that she had been there.

We’re happy for you Thema, but can you let other people enjoy their success in peace? This is what she posted on her Instagram:

2. Morgan Deane opens up about failed marriage

So, we also know about Graeme Smith and Morgan Deane’s messy divorce. Just when we thought the divorce was going down quietly, Deane couldn’t hold it in anymore, she posted a series of tweets, airing Smith’s dirty laundry for everyone to see. This is what she said:

3. AKA and Cassper Nyovest in another fallout

Still on people throwing shade at other people; we thought AKA and Cassper Nyovest had kissed and made up. I guess we were wrong. We don’t know what exactly happens between the two but something keeps pulling them back to their shade. Nyovest however, always seems to not want to throw shade right back at AKA for some reason.

This is what happened

AKA tweeted this:

Nyovest then replied

Talk about not meeting him halfway, anyways we hope one day they become friends.

4. Mfundi Vundla accuses Uzalo producers of stealing story lines

Again, still on the shade being thrown all over; we heard this week that the five-month-old Uzalo had booted Generations off its pedestal as the most watched show on SABC 1 – for the first time in more than 20 years.

Vundla told City Press that he wasn’t shaken at all because “Uzalo was on top just for a day”. Well, it didn’t end there, apparently Vundla went on to accuse the producers of Uzalo of ‘sabotaging’ his soapie and ‘stealing’ its story lines.Losing is hard to accept, especially when you’ve been winning for years. We hope things get sorted out somehow.5. Ayanda Mpama new host of Our Perfect WeddingMoving right along, for those who did not know, the fifth season of Our Perfect Wedding ended on Sunday night. When the show returns, they will have a new host, Ayanda Mpama. Affectionately known as Aya, the new OPW host hails from KwaZulu-Natal and holds a Music and Drama Degree from UKZN.

The singer whose talent saw her finish in the Top 6 during SA Idols (2005), she went on to release her debut album in 2007. Since then she’s performed as a musician and worked as an MC at numerous corporate functions around South Africa, for both local and international VIPs. We can only hope she brings a fresh feel to the show, though Mzansi was not tired of Tumi, but let’s give other people a chance, shall we?6. Facebook opens office in Joburg

Enough of the shade already, we do have some good news for you. Social media giant Facebook has opened its first office in Africa, in Johannesburg, to support it’s customers on the continent. Based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, Facebook’s newest business office will be headed by Nunu Ntshingila, the company’s new head of Africa.

Ntshingila, who helped drive the creation of Ogilvy’s network in Sub Saharan Africa, will join the company in September.

A graduate of the University of Swaziland and Morgan State University in the US, Ntshingila has also held senior positions at Nike and the South African Tourism board. Congratulations to you, we wish you nothing but the best.

7. The movie Ayanda and the Mechanic

South African drama Ayanda and the Mechanic, set in Yeoville, directed by Sara Blecher,  is a coming-of-age story of a 21-year-old “Afro-hipster”, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she has to fight to save her late father’s legacy – a motor repair shop – when it is threatened with closure. She’s thrown into a world of greasy overalls, gender stereotypes and abandoned vintage cars once loved, now in need of a young woman’s re-inventive touch to bring them back to life again.

The film stars Fulu Mugovhani and Nigerian actor OC Ukeje, with a star South African cast that includes Ntathi Moshesh, Kenneth Nkosi, Jafta Mamabola, Thomas Gumede, Sihle Xaba and veteran star of stage and screen Vanessa Cooke.
