The Global Citizen Live concert was held this past weekend at The Great Lawn in New York City, where many internationally recogniSed artists took the stage to deliver exceptional performances, and public figures pledged to help defend the planet and fight poverty.
TV personality, actress and activist, Nomzamo Mbatha took centre stage to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, onto the stage to address the crowd on climate change action, and urge world leaders to adopt a vaccine equity policy to help end the Covid-19 pandemic.
This was the couple’s first New York City engagement since ditching their royal duties last year in attempts to build their own careers and personal identities.

Mbatha took to social media to post some pictures she took backstage with Harry and Meghan, and she also expressed how delighted and honoured she was to be a part of Global Citizen’s initiative.
“So honoured and proud of Global Citizen Live for the execution of this past Saturday. Vaccine equity, ending extreme poverty and quality education for the world’s most marginalised.
“Welcoming the most wonderful Duke and Duchess of Sussex on stage and speaking on behalf of Global Citizen‘s multi-billion dollar commitment was such a great honour,” said the Coming 2 America actress.
In 2019, Mbatha was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
This came after the activist had been serving as a High Profile Supporter since 2017, and had visited four different refugee camps with the UNHCR in Malawi, Kenya and South Sudan.
