According to the Sowetan, the ‘Idols’ winner was a no-show at the Durban Spring Break party and the Moretele Park Jazz Festival, which both recently took place on the same day.
With event organisers angered and desperate to get their money back, the reason behind Mthethwa’s failure to show up is reportedly some kind of animosity between him and his booking agent.
When approached for comment, the singer referred the newspaper to the booking agent in question, saying: “I have a booking agent, she handles everything.”
“My bookings are confirmed by payment. As far as I know, I wasn’t paid. I’m not sure if she was paid. There wasn’t anything else that I was doing.”
Durban Spring Break organisers, however, provided proof that money was paid into his account.
Mthethwa’s booking agent, Esme Herbst, said she wouldn’t exactly call the trouble between them a fall-out, before referring them to her lawyer, Dwayne Fourie.
He explained: “The main issue surrounding this no-show story is that there is an agreement in place for Esme and Khaya and it has been terminated. Existing bookings should be honoured by Khaya. He has a new agent who is also booking him.”
