Mazwai has called out Mthethwa, tweeting the only reason he was a minister was because of his ruling party membership. She also asked how some ministers had no qualifications in their respective portfolios but went on to head those departments.

Mazwai has gone so far as to suggest she was herself a more suitable candidate to be considered for arts and culture minister, referring to her master of arts degree and 15 years’ experience as a poet, writer and singer.
Many shared Mazwai’s sentiments, pointing out that the ANC preferred political appointments over qualifications.
