Mpofu throws shade at AKA

On Tuesday, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) were celebrating their third birthday and its national chairperson Advocate Dali Mpofu could not hold back but share on Twitter what the party had achieved so far.

In one of his tweets, Mpofu took the time to congratulate the party’s leaders who had graduated in their respective fields, implying that his party was for the educated.

“Happy3rdAnniversary to these LEARNED FRIENDS & all fellow Fighters for Economic Freedom,” he tweeted.

As he was busy with the celebrations on Twitter, one user tweeted at him, thanking him for paying for music group Entity’s album. Mpofu’s son Sizwe was a member of the group. According to the user, the group’s separation was a result of an agreement they had with Mpofu, that they would release one album and Sizwe would then quit to focus on school.

“A decisive investment: Look how they all turned out..Sizwe Oxford PhD candidate, Nhlanhla an attorney & AKA..well er..” Mpofu responded, further saying “stuff” happens, commenting on the group’s split.

Whether Mpofu could not finish his tweet because he did not know what AKA had achieved academically or was just throwing shade remains to be seen. However, one user finished Mpofu’s tweet, saying AKA was the best rapper in SA, to which he sarcastically responded with: “Took the words out of my mouth…”

AKA’s take on politics has landed him on the wrong side of the EFF, with him previously involved in a twar with Julius Malema and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

The One Time hitmaker previously took to Twitter to tell his fans he would no longer be performing at opposition party events, without specifically mentioning which ones, a comment that was met with anger from the EFF’s Ndlozi.

Ndlozi responded to AKA, saying he had no problem with AKA’s political affiliation, but felt that it was not right for him to choose sides because his music is not political and he should know he has fans in the EFF too.

AKA was recently criticised on Twitter for campaigning for the ruling party, with some saying his political opinions had no credibility because he was being paid for the campaigns. AKA, who fully supports the ANC and its leader, tweeted on Sunday that he had received “strange looks” from people at the airport while in his ANC regalia. “Ironic since the ANC is the reason they didn’t have to flee this country,” he said.

A fan told him it was unfair to only mention the ANC as the only freedom fighter. “Our freedom was a joint of many political parties and non political organisations,” they said, before AKA told them to vote for the PAC.

AKA says his support for the ANC has nothing to do with money as “I make more money in 30min, on stage than I’m being paid for weeks of campaigning. So how can it be about money?”
