Missy Elliott makes music history

American songwriter, dancer and record producer Missy Elliott’s decades-long music career and unmistakable talent were on Saturday immortalised when she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as the first female rapper.

The multi-platinum album artist and Grammy Award-winner took to her social media pages to react to the news and also congratulate her industry peers who were also awarded the coveted title.

“I am so humbly grateful to now be inducted,” the five-time Grammy winner said on Twitter.

Rounding out the rest of the 2019 inductees were Dallas Austin, Tom T Hall, Yusus Islam (aka Cat Stevens), John Prine and Jack Tempchin.

The 47-year-old Elliot, whose impressive body of work speaks for itself, will together with her fellow inductees be officially honoured at an awards dinner later this year.
