Jackson's dismal public image in his final years meant his final concert series had no sponsors, despite record advance ticket sales for the 50 planned shows, according to a witness at the Jackson family's lawsuit against concert promoters AEG LIve.
Cirque du Soleil commented: “Due to touring logistical reasons we are no longer able to bring The Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour to every market we had scheduled for 2014 and, regretfully, South Africa is one of these markets, which is very sad indeed. We will, however, look at re-routing this tour to bring the show back in the future and appreciate our fan’s understanding and continued support.”
Big Concerts is disappointed by the news and will communicate to fans regarding a new tour date.
Individuals who purchased tickets through Computicket but haven’t collected them will be eligible for an automatic refund into their credit card, while those who have their tickets should visit a Computicket outlet in order for the refund to be processed.
Those who bought tickets from Big Concerts will receive full reimbursement on the credit card with which the tickets were purchased from Monday, 7 October, and anyone who hasn’t received a full refund by Monday, 14 October, should contact their call centre.
