WATCH: King Charles’ run-in with mountain bikers, Meghan’s expensive six-day closet

Having only joined husband Prince Harry at the Invictus Games days after his European arrival, Meghan Markle stole the show at wearing outfits that are reportedly worth more than R6 million (£300,000).

The Games are an international sporting event established by Harry dedicated to wounded and sick servicemen and women.

In a space of six days the actress served a variety of outfits that would have most girls jealous. On arrival, she wore a black long sleeved midi dress from Banana Republic, cinching it at the waist with a black Bottega Veneta belt and completing the look with simple black pumps by Aquazzura.

The Daily Mail reported the royal mother-of-two looked to high street retailers such as Zara, Banana Republic and J Crew for affordable fashionable pieces as well as mid-range designers like Ralph Lauren and Toteme.

However, racking up the majority of Meghan’s bill was her jewellery, which included Princess Diana‘s R413 770,97 (£17,800) Cartier watch and her R1 162 278 (£50,000) Lorraine Schwartz pinky ring made with “diamonds gifted from the Middle East”.

While a working member of the royal family, the cost of Meghan’s clothes for work engagements was covered by then-Prince Charles through the budget he gave the couple from the Duchy of Cornwall.
But after the couple said they wanted to be financially independent, it is not clear who is picking up the bill for Meghan’s clothes, or whether the Duchess always pays full price for her clothing, or receives discounts from designers.

Here FEMAIL calculates the value of Meghan’s Invictus Games wardrobe, only taking into account the cost of items once and not counting recycled pieces.

When the couple went to watch a wheelchair basketball game, Meghan chose a more peppy outfit, wearing a J.Crew white cardigan with black trim and gold buttons over a plain black top and matching white high-waisted shorts from Staud. For footwear, she stepped into a pair of nude and black slingback flats by Chanel, Cosmopolitan described.

King Charles indulges cyclists

A group of cyclists ran into King Charles III on the Balmoral Estate and shared a video of themselves with the monarch reports The Independent.

Scottish mountain biker Andrew McAvoy, who regularly shares videos to his YouTube channel, McTrail Rider, was the one who broadcast the rare occasion.

Before setting off on their trip, McAvoy had joked that they might run into the king. He said: “I think Charlie boy is here because there’s guards down there with big assault rifles and stuff like that – it looks pretty cool.”

“They probably wouldn’t do that if no one important was here,” the cyclist added.

After cycling past a number of Range Rovers driving in the opposite direction, McAvoy’s friends said he thought a minor royal could be visiting the estate. They filmed themselves setting up camp in one of the Balmoral bothies: basic accommodation or shelters left unlocked and free of charge for visitors to use.

King Charles is in France on a state visit with his wife, Queen Camila.  

“Ours is a partnership forged through shared experience, and one which remains utterly vital as, together, we confront the challenges of our world,” the King said in the speech, which he delivered in both English and French.
