Mbali Mlotshwa not unrealistic about love

Actress Mbali Mlotshwa says she thinks people often end up sabotaging their own relationships by having unrealistic ideas about love.

Recognised for her role as Precious Ledwaba in SABC drama series ‘Tshisa’, Mlotshwa is also well-known for her marriage to Nkosinathi Maphumulo aka DJ Black Coffee, the renowned South African house music exponent.

The pair tied the knot in May 2011 and are still going strong, a generally uncommon trend for couples who are both involved in show business.

The Sowetan spoke to Mbali about her secrets for keeping the romance alive, but she was less than forthcoming with any specifically personal details.

“If I told you I would have to kill you,” the actress jokingly replied.

She did, however, explain that she thinks it’s important to plan and do things together to ensure that a relationship doesn’t get boring. She said: “Who I am is who he fell in love with. I’ve never been one to allow myself to be changed by a man.”

The 26-year-old added: “People have this idea that they know each other, but I think we keep learning about each other as we go. At the end of the day, you are not going to be seeing flying stars in your relationship every day. Romance is what you make of it.”
