In an interview with Talk Radio 702, Owens said, as a result of his poor health, Mashesha – real name Sibusiso Khomo – had been largely absent on stage with his bandmates over the last couple of years, adding superstar L’vovo, also from the Durban Kwaito scene, had often stood in for him.
Owen observed how, on the set of their music video for Hawaii, his declining condition was evident. She added: “He had always been thin, but he just seemed to get thinner and thinner and thinner over the years.”
On the future of Big Nuz, she speculated that the new album could be their last, unless they got a third member, possibly L’vovo or Afrotainment boss DJ Tira, to fill in for Mashesha, as it would be difficult for the trio to continue without a third member.
Owen expressed her optimism for the new album, saying from Afrotainment’s past consistency, Big Nuz could be relied on to deliver a good album.
R Mashesha passed away on Friday after months of death hoaxes on Twitter and Facebook.
