Prayers are up for South African musician Mandla ‘Mampintsha‘ Maphumulo after the artist suffered a minor stroke a week ago.
Confirming the news, the label representing the Big Nuz member – Afrotainment – in a statement announced that Mandela Maphumalo suffered a stroke upon his return from a performance with Big Nuz.
According to the record label, Mampintsha is currently in hospital “receiving medical attention and is under doctor’s observation.”
Maphumulo was admitted to King Edward Hospital in Durban and later transferred to Durdoc Hospital in Durban Central, TimesLive reported.
“The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy during this difficult time. We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him a speedy recovery and we cannot wait for him to rock our stages again,” the statement read.
Mampintsha is married to Wololo hitmaker Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane. The couple also have a child together, affectionately known as Sponge.
The pair tied the knot a year ago and their wedding was screened in a Showmax special, in addition to the reality TV show Uthando Lodumo.
‘Speedy recovery’ wishes flooded under the Afrotainment post on Instagram, with the likes of industry peers Nomcebo Zikode and gospel singer Dumi Mkokstad wishing the artist well.
“Aw bakithi will pray for him engathi angaba ngcono (hope he gets well),” Xola moya wam composer, Nomcebo said.
“Speedy recovery Shimora we need you back on stage soon,” one fan wrote.
“God that said ‘He will never leave us’ [and] dark days are just challenges that get us even very closer to our master. We speak upon him God listen #SpeedyRecovery Mfo ka Maphumulo,” another fan said.
