Malaika’s lady goes solo

Mholo rose to fame as lead singer of the well-known Afro-pop group, alongside Bongani Nchang and the late Jabu Mdaba, but she says she’s always wanted a successful career as a solo artist.

“I’ve always wanted to venture out on my own,” she told SunBuzz.

“That’s how I thought my career would begin but Malaika happened first and I embraced the opportunity to be part of a successful group.

“I’m growing as a person and I’d love to try new things. I am passionate about music and it’s always been my dream to have my own project.”

The 37-year-old has named her album ‘Victory’ to commemorate finally reaching the goal she had to walk such a long road to reach.

“I gave it my all and I have worked with the best songwriters and established hitmakers,” she said of the debut album.

“For the past 10 years of my life as a professional musician, the challenges and obstacles I’ve come across have been set aside, resulting in this final personal achievement.

“I feel like a winner who has been in a race against time, with the belief that one day I will emerge from it victorious.”

Mholo’s 13-track album was released on Monday, 14 October.
