L’vovo admitted to hospital after suffering minor stroke while performing in KZN

Well-known musician L’vovo Derrango is currently recovering in hospital after suffering a minor stroke during a performance in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

The incident took place on Friday in Ndwedwe, according to L’vovo’s record label Derrango Records.

‘Responding very well’

In a statement on Saturday, the label said: “This is a public notification to media, events promoters, fans and all relevant stakeholders by Derrango Records on behalf of its multi-award winning artist by the name of Thokozani Sphamandla Ndlovu also known as L’vovo Derrango.

“Lvovo Derrango suffered a minor stroke during his performance at Ndwedwe on [Friday]. He is admitted at the hospital for medical attention and he is responding very well.”

“We kindly ask that you keep him in your prayers and we’re confident that he will come out of this difficult situation stronger.

“The family kindly ask for public and media to respect their privacy during this difficult time,” the statement further reads.

Accident

L’vovo’s hospitalisation follows an accident in May this year that almost took his life.

He was driving his VW Polo 7 coming from seeing his family at home in Newcastle when an oncoming truck lost control.

According to Drum Magazine, the musician had a hip replacement operation after the accident

“I had dislocated my hip. I couldn’t walk [because] the hip was moved, and they had to replace it. I had an injury to my right knee and a knot on my left. I have bruises on my face and the airbags hit me on the ribs, causing injuries,” he says.

He was reportedly discharged on 2 June to recover at home.

Mampintsha

The South African music industry, meanwhile, is mourning the death of Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo.

Afrotainment confirmed Mampintsha’s death on Saturday after he had also suffered a minor stroke.

“Details on the memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course. The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy as they deal with this difficult loss.

“We ask that you keep his wife Bongekile Maphumulo, their son and their family in your prayers and Afrotainment sends it’s heartful condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” the record label said in a statement.

Mampintsha was in hospitalised earlier this week where he was admitted to King Edward Hospital in Durban. He was then later transferred to Durdoc Hospital in Durban Central. 

This is the second member from the Big Nuz crew to have died, leaving Mzingisi Tshomela, popularly known as Danger as the sole member.

Mashesha – real name Sibusiso Khomo – lost his life from ‘throat surgery complications’ in 2015.
