Linda Moeketsi cautions famous friends after phone theft

Moeketsi’s Blackberry cellphone was stolen from his house in Alberton over the weekend, during a party intended for just his close friends, one of whom received a message from the nicked phone asking for money two days later.

“He sent a Blackberry message to Somizi pretending to be me and asked for R3000 to be sent via eWallet,” Moeketsi explained to Drum.

The perpetrator subsequently messaged two other friends of Moeketsi asking for R3000 and R5000 respectively, before eventually sending him a personal message that read: “Anything you want to say before I make your nude pictures go viral.”

Moeketsi knew, though, that there were no nude photos on his phone, only ones he “took while I was at the gym wearing underwear or swimwear”, and he finally traced the phone to an unnamed 25-year-old from Bloemfontein.

“I just want to warn people in public platforms to be careful and take care of the stuff they put in their cellphone, because they put themselves in a position of being blackmailed if the phones land in the wrong hands,” he explains.

Moeketsi’s best recognised as the former manager of Khanyi Mbau.
