Let me suffer in peace, says ‘terminally ill’ Ray Phiri
The musician has exhausted all his private funds, including his medical aid, and is in need of funding.

Music great Ray Phiri, suffering from lung cancer, has reportedly been admitted to a Nelspruit hospital and is under the care of an oncologist, though he insists “the situation is under control”.
Speaking to The Sowetan, Phiri reportedly asked that he be given space and that his privacy be respected.
“Let me suffer pain, on my own with dignity,” he was quoted as saying by the publication.

According to band mate Richard Mitchell, Phiri has exhausted all his private funds, including medical aid funds, and is in need of funding.
“Please help by donating funds, as he has exhausted all his private funds. Phiri has received many awards in recognition of his contribution to the music industry,” wrote Mitchell.
Fellow industry great Marah Louw also told the publication she had spoken to Phiri and could hear he was “not well”. She said she had sent Phiri’s banking details to friends, who were trying to do all they could to raise funds for him.
Ringo Madlingozi also said he was aware of Phiri’s plea for help and would “help at whatever opportunity I get”.
