Lerato Sengadi Tsambo reminisces on her late husband HHP five years after his passing
Hip Hop Pantsula's death anniversary wasn’t recognised by most of his peers in the Hip Hop community.

Quoting lyrics from an Aretha Franklin hit-song, HHP’s wife Lerato Sengadi Tsambo paid tribute to her late husband and rapper HHP five years to the day he died.
“I found my way out of the darkness I kept my faith (I know you did), kept my faith! When the river was deep, I didn’t falter. When the mountain was high, I still believed! When the valley was low, it didn’t stop me, no no!! I knew you were waiting, I knew you were waiting for me!” Lerato wrote quoting Franklin’s I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).
Last month Lerato was reminiscing about her late mother, who was born 12 days apart from HHP, on her birthday.
“These Besties were born 12 days apart. They were (and still are) inseparable. Mawe Waka le Motho wa Motho. Happy Birthday Mawe Waka. I love you for many lifetimes. We miss you more than it’s humanly possible. My heart is too sore to say anything else. A valuable reminder that life comes at u fast and will humble you in the blink of an eye.”
Real name Jabulani ‘Jabba’ Tsambo, better known as Hip Hop Pantsula or just HHP died in 2016, details of his death were unclear, but reports suggested that it was a possible suicide as he was suffering from depression. He was 38 at the time of his death.
HHP popularised Motswako rap, which is a style of rap used by Setswana rappers. The likes of Cassper Nyovest and Khuli Chana are today’s leaders of the style.

Remembering HHP
The South African Hip Hop community was glaringly silent on the anniversary of Jabba’s death. Veteran rapper and producer Amu posted an unreleased song he did with the late rapper yesterday but his other collaborators were mum on the day.
Vele ke lenyora, ke nwa metsi ke rota Red Bulu, ke moriski ke ja Rice Krispisi ka whiskey. Ene o ka se ntshware – khohlwa! Ke kgaila page gar'a Facebuku! Jabu ne o bua ka nna mos mo🤔
