Lalla Hirayama obtains protection order against ‘abusive’ father – report

Model and TV presenter Lalla Hirayama has obtained an interim protection order against her father at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. In a Sunday World report, Hirayama alleges her father threatened to destroy her career. She reportedly told the court that her father was allegedly abusive towards her elderly mother and grandfather.

The court issued a warrant of arrest against her father, but its execution was suspended on condition that he did not violate the restraining order. The father is expected to defend himself against the protection order and state why the order should not be permanent.

The protection order was granted last week.

In her court papers, she alleges her father to have threatened to end her career and to also have gone to her mother’s workplace to allegedly verbally abuse her and her colleagues. This resulted in him being escorted off the premises by security guards.

Hirayama detailed an incident where her father allegedly threatened to break her door down if he was not let in.

Some extracts from the papers read: “My father is known to consistently carry weapons such as knives, blades, axes, daggers, and knuckle dusters on his person and has expressed his desires and consistent attempts to acquire a gun.”

She has urged the court to seize her father’s weapons, prevent him from contacting them telephonically or on social media, and to stop him from stalking them or damaging her property.

Neither the father or Hirayama were reached for comment at the time of publishing the Sunday World report, and The Citizen will update the story once more details become available.

These allegations surfaced after thousands of women marched against gender-based violence across the country, last week.

The marches were in response to recent cases of gender-based violence across the country, which included the murders of University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana and SA boxing champion Leighandre Jegels.
