One of the stars of Happiness Ever After, Khanyi Mbau, has begged the Lord to unmute her after she recently lost her voice on the worst day possible – the day of a big premiere event alongside her co-stars for their new Netflix film.
Taking to Instagram after the event, Mbau wrote:
“The saddest thing happened to me today. How does one lose their voice on such a huge day? I had so much to say. All I could do to express my joy was letting down tears. I was surrounded by such greatness and I couldn’t say a word. I guess God wanted me to serve for once and just listen, feel and take it all in!”
“Cos what I experienced today is some voodoo. Lord, please press the mute button and unmute me,” added the actress who is known for having a great sense of humour.
Despite not being able to speak, Mbau looked exquisite, as did her co-stars Renate Stuurman and Nambitha Ben-Mazwi.
Although Mbau could not speak, The Citizen recently spoke to the rest of the cast of ‘Happiness Ever After‘ who are excited for audiences to finally be able to see the film.
Richard Lukunku reprises his role as the film’s deadbeat dad Leo, who comes back in what looks like an effort to right his wrongs.
When asked if audiences will change their mind about him considering the seriousness of his actions, Lukunku simply says audiences will have to watch the film and make up their minds for themselves.
“He strives to make right the wrongs that he committed in the last movie. Does he succeed? That’s something you’re going to have to tune in on 10 November,” begins Lukunku.
“It was a wonderful experience, I really enjoyed coming back, I kind of thought I wasn’t coming back the way they threw me out in the last one,” he added, jokingly.
“10th of November, Netflix, that’s where you’ll get it!”
New addition to the cast, Loyiso Macdonald, also enjoyed being part of the film. Macdonald made his way into viewers’ hearts as Kagiso Khoza on Mzansi Magic’s The Queen, where he played Harriet Khoza’s (Connie Ferguson) son.
His character recently left the show – due to Macdonald’s busy schedule – however, fans will be happy to see more of his face in a number of new roles, including one that gets a lot of screentime with Mbau in Happiness Ever After.
He expressed his sheer joy at being part of a project that will be available to audiences in 190 countries around the world come 10 November.
He also commented on how daunting something so huge can be, adding “we really have to put our best foot forward in terms of the stories we tell.”
Other new additions to the film come in the form of Nambitha Ben-Mazwi, Mam Nandi Nyembe and Xolile Tshabalala who also appears in Netflix’s Blood & Water.
Both Mam Nandi and Xolile Tshabalala began by sharing how they loved auditioning in person after months of doing self-tape auditions for other projects.
“When you do a self-tape, it doesn’t do justice. When you audition, you want to be there so you can show them what you can give,” adds Mam Nandi after Xolile explained how director Bongi brought her on board.
“It’s high pressure because it’s a box office hit, but overwhelming excitement. My gosh!” said Nambitha when asked about her feelings regarding the project.
The actress, who features in a number of productions currently available on Netflix, added that she loved working with everyone on the project, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
Besides Mbau and the rest of the cast, all eyes are on Stuurman who plays one of the lead roles of Princess.
One of the main things Stuurman enjoyed about working on Happiness Ever After was the opportunity to continue the story, revisit her character and develop her further in an effort to take the story forward.
