Singer Kelly Khumalo has sat down with MTV Base’s Sizwe Dhlomo to discuss her career and the personal struggles which she has battled in private and in the public eye.
In the two-part special interview which will be aired on Friday, June 24, Khumalo talks about her past relationships with her baby daddies Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and Senzo Meyiwa.
On Meyiwa, Khumalo says as much as she loved the late Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and captain, that relationship was “a waste of time and energy”. She also accuses Meyiwa’s wife, Mandisa Mkhize, of trying to push her off the road while she was driving.
Khumalo also talks about her jailed ex-boyfriend Jub Jub, who she says was abusive and she will get a restraining order against him when he gets out of prison. When asked where things went wrong for her, Khumalo says it was her drug addiction that ruined everything. She shares that the addiction was so bad she would sometimes go to church high.
The mother of two is not new to controversy; she always made headlines for her relationships that played out in the public eye, with two ending on bad terms and with accusations of physical abuse. Her most recent known relationship ended when Senzo was shot dead at her home in Vosloorus on October 26, 2014.
The death of Meyiwa landed Khumalo in the headlines when Senzo’s father, Sam Meyiwa, made it public that he wanted nothing to do with her. It was reported Khumalo watched her late boyfriend’s funeral on TV as she was not allowed to attend the ceremony.
Things between the two got to a point where Sam did not want Khumalo to have any part of the insurance payout. However, things ended up working out in her favour when it was confirmed that the insurance payout (R2 million) would go to Senzo’s children, including the daughter he had with Kelly.
Be sure to watch the full episodes of the interviews that promise to reveal all about her relationships.
