In 2012, with the launch of her docu-reality show, Rolling with Kelly Khumalo, the then fading songstress had a resurgence into the limelight.
Back then it helped the troubled afro-pop star to win back some of her finances and fans she lost during her very public falling from grace.
Now, following the murder of her boyfriend Senzo Meyiwa, it seems the singers’ sales are again getting a boost. While Khumalo is grieving, her book publisher and record label confirmed sales have spiked.
According to her label Universal, her latest album Asine is a top seller in music stores across South Africa.
Dharam Sewraj, Universal commercial director claimed that, “There has been a spike in sales but it is not only based on Senzo’s passing. The days of brands influencing sales are over. These days it’s about talent and the music that an artist puts out. We are even looking at putting out advertising because the album is doing so well.”
At the same time her book, which was released in 2012 by Jacana Media to coincide with the first season of her reality show, is also doing well following media scrutiny after Meyiwa’s death.
On November 12, Khumalo told The Citizen she was doing well under the circumstances, and was trying to come to terms with the death of her boyfriend and father of her second child.
“I’m also trying to move on,” she said.
