Many SA celebrities will be heading to the concert at the FNB Stadium, among them television presenter Lalla Hirayama, entertainment guru Jennifer Su, and model Shajar Khan.
A huge Rihanna fan, fellow songbird Tamara Dey is also very excited about the show.
She told Times Live: “She’s one of my favourite performers in the pop genre. I love her style and attitude. I also love her fashion and imagery. I’m pretty excited about seeing her. We’re all going to be going crazy there. I’ll be dressed and I have my friend coming with, so we’re going to party.”
Also a fan of glamorous Riri’s unique fashion sense, ‘It Girl’ Bonang Matheba revealed her reasons for attending the show: “Why am I going? Because it’s Rihanna. I’m a big fan of her style and music. She’s undoubtedly the biggest pop star in the world at the moment. It’s very rare that musicians visit our country when they are still in their prime. She’s at the peak of her career so part of me wants to experience her and see why the world loves her so much. Plus, we can always PVR Idols and Carte Blanche – we can’t PVR Rihanna.”
And popular television personality Boity Thulo confirmed her attendance, saying: “I’m going. This is Rihanna we’re talking about. She doesn’t perform every weekend in South Africa, neither are there fabulous concerts every Sunday. It’s an awesome girl’s night out. Everyone parties on Sunday in Jozi.”
Representing Rihanna fans of the male persuasion, a nonchalant Chad Saaiman was slightly less forthcoming with his praise, saying: “I have all her music. I’m not a super fan but I am a fan. A great part of the music I make is pop, so you have to recognise her. Her catalogue is huge so she can do any kind of show she wants. I’m not going to see and hear her perform Whitney-esque vocals, but I respect her. She’s at the top of her game in terms of pop and the music world in general. It goes beyond being a male or female.”
Rihanna’s second and last concert will take place at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday, 16 October.
