Actor Jean-Claude Van Damme’s team has denied allegations of sexual misconduct after a criminal complaint was filed against him in Romania a few weeks ago.

The complaint was reportedly submitted to the Romanian Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT).

According to Romanian news outlet Antena 3, Van Damme is accused of knowingly having sexual relations with women who were trafficked by a criminal group based in Cannes, France.

The Expendables 2 actor is alleged to have accepted five Romanian women as a “gift”, knowing that they came from a group of traffickers, according to the complaint obtained by the publication.

In a statement sent to People, Van Damme’s agent said the allegations are false.

The agent added that the actor did not wish to comment on the matter.

“We have become aware of articles alleging an affair in Cannes involving Mr Jean-Claude Van Damme. The reported facts are both grotesque and non-existent.

“Mr Van Damme does not wish to comment or fuel this rumour, which is as absurd as it is unfounded,” the statement read.
