I’ve moved on from Senzo, says Kelly Khumalo

Singer Kelly Khumalo has opened up about her relationship with Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa in an interview with Anele Mdoda.

Khumalo has two children, a daughter with the late Meyiwa and a son with ex-boyfriend Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye.

Speaking about her children, she asserted that her daughter would never be in contact with Meyiwa’s family because she cut out negative people from her life.

“For me, if you are negative in my life, you don’t exist. I literally cut you off as if you don’t even exist.” She added that when her children are older, they were both free to have a relationship with their fathers’ families.

Khumalo was also oblivious to the memorial service that commemorated three years since Senzo’s death.

“I’ve moved on. It’s been three years. For me, the only thing that keeps me close to Senzo is my daughter, and that’s it. I need nothing more. I need no relationships with strangers or people that I know nothing about.”

The Asine hitmaker wrote a song in 2016 named after the iconic soccer player in honour of him. According to Khumalo, the song has helped her heal and become happy.

“I’m in a very good space in my life right now, such that yes, it was sad, but it has made me the woman that I am today,” she proudly said.

Mdoda then asked her the question that every South African has been asking since the tragic incident occurred: who killed Senzo Meyiwa?

Khumalo revealed she was still not allowed to talk about what happened the night Meyiwa was murdered. She also questioned why the police had not conducted further investigations and put his killer behind bars.

However, Khumalo admitted she would be able to point out Meyiwa’s killer if she ever saw him. “Without a shadow of doubt. That picture has stayed with me till today. Even my son remembers that person, so for me that picture will forever be there.”
