‘I’ll break the silence, watch this space,’ says DJ Fresh on Metro FM ‘impasse’

The DJ doesn't seem to know if he will return to the radio station.

Thato Sikwane, professionally known as DJ Fresh, has apologised for his silence following his suspension from Metro FM after using the word “m*unery” on air in May. He was taken to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCCSA) for also telling a listener to stop “tweeting out of his a**”.

Listeners have since called for a boycott of the station if DJ Fresh is not brought back on air.

Now DJ Fresh has said he does not know if the disagreement he has had with Metro FM will be solved and has promised to “break the silence”.

In a video he shared on social media, he said: “The only reason I’m doing this video is because we are where we are right now. First things first, thank you to everyone who has shown concern asking me how I am, where I am. From DMs, to your mother, grandmother, even little kids stopping me in the middle of the streets asking me when are you back on the radio.

“I need to apologise for the wall of silence and three weeks of not knowing what the hell is going on. It’s been as frustrating for you as it has been for me but truth be told, one of the reasons there has been a massive silence is because there has been an impasse with the corporation.

“At this stage, I can’t even tell you whether this impasse is breakable but to all of you who have supported my career, either from January or last year, you deserve better than the silence and I’ll break it, watch this space.”

The DJ has received messages of support from his fans.

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said: “Dj Fresh hope all will come to pass and you go back to work. You have my support my man,” while Cassper Nyovest, along with many others have asked him to launch his own radio station.
