In the midst of headlines about Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry’s decision to step down as ‘senior’ royals, a video of him talking about his will to protect his family has resurfaced.
The clip was taken from a documentary that interviewed the couple, who opened up about the challenges they have faced since they tied the knot in a lavish and much-publicised wedding in May 2018.
In the clip, Prince Harry says: “My mom taught me a set of values of which I will always try and uphold despite our role and job. I will always protect my family, I have a family to protect. Everything she went through is incredibly real every single day and that’s not me being paranoid, that’s me not wanting a repeat of the past. If anybody else knew what I knew, be it a father or husband, you should probably do what I’m doing as well.”
In a statement earlier this week, the royal couple announced their decision to step back as ‘senior’ royals, in what their fans said was a move to protect their family from the ruthless British media.
They said: “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen,” they said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution,” they added. “We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America.”
The royal couple has received praise and criticism from the media and public following the announcement.
