Idols SA star Mthokozisi to write ‘tell-all’ book after assault claims

Mthokozisi Ndaba’s career took a major blow after his 2017 arrest for assault.

The Idols SA contestant claims he lost several endorsement deals after a woman accused him of beating her up at an apartment in Hillbrow. The assault charges against the singer were provisionally withdrawn in December.

Speaking to Tshisa Live, Mthokozisi explained why he has been keeping a low profile since the incident.

“The thing is most of the gigs are in Johannesburg, and when we knocked we got no reply. A lot of sponsors dropped me. Many of them pulled out because of the incident,” he told the publication.

The musician says he will be releasing new music independently after parting ways with Gallo Records.

An insider told Tshisa Live that the label, which released his first single, dropped him because he was not co-operating and was avoiding their calls. “He was not interested in doing what he was asked to,” the source claimed.

But Mthokozisi dismissed the claims. He says after Idols the label was supposed to sign a contract with him, but they did not contact him. His relationship with the label allegedly soured after he was accused of assault.

“During the allegations, I spoke for myself and with the help from KZN government. They never even phoned me to find out if it was true or not … It is not true that I am unapproachable. They just did not want to go through my publicist.”

Mthokozisi says he resigned from his former manager as people complained that they could not reach her.  He allegedly lost 21 gigs as a result and now books all his gigs himself.

Mthokozisi says he will be releasing a tell-all book, along with a 10-track album in the near future.

“The book will blow people’s minds because it will tell only the truth. I want people to see that I am a human being. I’ve been through so much in my life and I want them to accept who I am, a fighter,” he said.

Gallo officials, meanwhile, say Mthokozisi is technically still under contract with the label. They say they were keen to work with him after the successful release of his first single.

“We wanted to discuss his contract and the terms thereof as he was also advertising on social media regarding releasing a book and a free CD of material without the knowledge of his record label. We have not been introduced nor has Gallo been made aware of any new PR manager as it would have been great to officially meet to discuss the way forward…” the label told Tshisa Live.
